Valentina  studies theatre and dance in Mexico, France and New York and gets a Bachelors Degree in Political Science.at Columbia University, USA. At present she is finishing her masters degree at the Autonomous Mexican University, UAM, in Cultural Administration.

She starts her professional acting career in 1977 in Mexico City, forming part of several independent projects, including “The Songs of Maldoror” by Count Lautréamont and the movie “Aura”.

After 1993 she mainly works as a percussionist in major afro-caribbean bands and salsa groups. She participates in various recordings and is part of major musical productions as “Cada Quien su Vida” and “Aventurera”. She directs the percussion ensemble “Aché” for several years and composes the repertoire it performs, likewise she plays “batá drums” with the Cuban collective “Oba Ilú” and Mexican prehispanic drums with Humberto Alvarez.

Starting the year 2000 she joins “La Fábrica” as an actress, dancer and musician. She writes the children´s play “Bigú, la Tortuga” and presents it with “La Fábrica” for several years, in a great variety of theaters.

In  2003, Valentina Ortiz composes her interlude for voice and percussion,  Caldo de Sueños, and is now presenting it with great success through out her country.

Since 2006 she works as a story teller in the Compania Se Cuenta and started the organization Cuentos Viajeros. Now in 2008 she is celebrating the publication of the organization´s first book as well as many presentations that have been completed throughout the Mexican territory. Valentina has just returned from the successful tour to Singapore in which she played at the Formula 1 Race as well as presenting her stories at several Singaporean locations.
